Ophelia

"Ophelia was part of the original Henry Tate Gift in 1894 and remains one of the most popular Pre-Raphaelite works in the Tate's collection. Shakespeare was a frequent source of inspiration for Victorian painters. Millais's image of the tragic death of Ophelia, as she falls into the stream and drowns, is one of the best-known illustrations from Shakespeare's playHamlet." Tom Hunter's work, although based around images created to reflect where he grew up, he has taken inspiration from famous masterpieces, such as his recreation in his image of Ophellia. This image is below:


For my book project the images below I have taken which are reminiscent of the image and painting above. Within the image I wanted to get across the idea of a struggle and drowning in words. I can really see the resemblance in my images to those above, even down to the way that I have my hands positioned.
